PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Noblesville Friends Youth Scholarship Program is an annual small grant funding program to help facilitate the preparation of gifts among the youth of Western Yearly Meeting (central Indiana). Applications can be submitted between January 15 and March 30 of each calendar for year college students affiliated with WYM.  One award will be granted each year in each of the following areas:

  • The Leanna Roberts Music Scholarship: For students preparing for a career in music and/or music education
  • The Phil Wise Agriculture Scholarship: For those preparing for a career in farming and/or sustainable land practices.
  • The Jim Smith Service Scholarship: For general studies students with a demonstrated heart for service.
  • The Gwen Tetrick Teaching Scholarship: For students preparing for classroom teaching or library science.
  • The Evelyn Coverdale Special Scholarship: For education students preparing to teach in Special Ed classrooms.
  • The Everett and Gerry Latham Leadership Award: For masters-level students preparing to lead as school administrators.

Grant Award:
Each scholarship awards a $500 grant to the top applicant in each area. Awards will be distributed in June of the award year. The Scholarship Committee requests two updates through the grantee’s school year (one per semester) so our meeting can hear of progress and pray for any needs grant recipients have. [Note: Noblesville Friends may choose to increase the size of the award grant in cases of demonstrated need and specific leading.]

Guidelines for Applying:

  • Complete the Grant Application posted on the Noblesville Friends website (noblesvillefriends.org) between January 15 and March 30.
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from someone affiliated with a Friends meeting in Western Yearly Meeting
  • Speak with the Scholarship committee by Zoom as part of the interview process.

Who Can Apply:
Any college-bound student (or in the case of the Everett and Gerry Latham Leadership Award, an active teacher pursuing administration-level education) who is in some way affiliated with a member of Western Yearly Meeting. The grant award can be applied in the pursuit of university or vocational education.
